WV Mug (MOSTLY Sweet Boy)
These are a lot like Sweet Boy...except they're not. The Sweet Boy mugs are in honor of my beloved Chocolate Lab Charlie, who I was lucky to have for more than fourteen years. Those mugs are meant to be classy, stately, handsome, and serious--all the things that Charlie grew up to be. But, for some reason, this batch went a little rogue, and I truly love them for that.
This batch definitely developed a personality of its own. But, you know what? It's kind of perfect when I think about it. Charlie wasn't always a dignified senior statesman who could be trusted to watch over a pottery studio. In fact, in his younger days, he was strong and energetic. He could jump up in the truck with ease, chase (and get sprayed) by skunks, run from the horses, chew the legs off antique chairs, and destroy a shoe or two or fifteen. Honestly, he didn't always play well with other dogs, and he really only loved two humans with his whole heart...me and my dear friend Doris. But, boy did he love us. Also, I say that he was a Chocolate Lab, but he was just Lab(ish), a crazy mix of pit, shepherd, and lab, as the dog DNA test proved.
So, basically, these Mostly Sweet Boy mugs are pretty much perfect. They honor Charlie...especially that young rascal who played hard and guarded me fiercely. Just like him, they are one-of-a-kind and can never be replicated. Like him, they only come this way once, so we smile and blow a kiss to destiny for knowing exactly what we needed and when.
