To me, Red Sulphur means Monroe County--and the route between Greenville and Union. These mugs are glazed a dark tomato reddish brown all over, highlighted with dark golden splashes, and finished with a grayish, greenish, blackish WV. There's most likely a fancier way to explain this glaze, but that's what makes sense to me. Bottom line, they're very rustic, very artsy, and very unique.

Green Sulphur because...well. These mugs are glazed all over in a sheer shiny green, splashed with a dark rust, and then finished off with a glossy black WV emblem. If you've traveled I-64 from Beckley to Lewisburg, you know that the Green Sulphur exit is how you get to Rainelle, which happens to be my childhood hometown.

Okay, so these mugs are cray....in the very best way. They're glazed all over in raspberry and then splashed with a haphazard, random assortment of colors--greens, blues, yellows, basically whatever strikes my fancy at the moment. The last step is a WV that sometimes looks more navy, sometimes looks more black...just depending on how moody it is on that particular day. If I weren't worried about the other mugs overhearing, I'd tell you that this is my favorite glaze combo. Fine, fine, I'll just say it. This is definitely my favorite!

This is one of two mugs honoring Charlie, my first pottery dog. From the moment I found him as a puppy by the side of a lonely, winding country road, he was my soulmate and constant companion in the studio. I was lucky to have him for more than 14 years. Just like my big, handsome brown boy, these mugs are a deep chocolate with gold highlights. The WV is blue to remember his puppy eyes...and then his senior eyes, colored by cataracts but still so very kind. I love all the dogs...but there was just something special about my Charlie baby, and I hope these mugs convey that.

Oh, my Sweet Boy. Even typing these words takes my breath away. I have two mugs in honor of the beautiful Chocolate Lab that I was lucky enough to have for more than fourteen years--Sweet Boy and Charlie. Sweet Boymugs are made with a dark chocolate clay, festooned with a mixed clay WV, and dipped in a clear glaze so that the natural colors of the clay are able to shine right through. It was an honor to have and love my Sweet Boy, and it is an honor to celebrate him with this mug.

WV Mug (MOSTLY Sweet Boy)

These are a lot like Sweet Boy...except they're not. The Sweet Boy mugs are in honor of my beloved Chocolate Lab Charlie, who I was lucky to have for more than fourteen years. Those mugs are meant to be classy, stately, handsome, and serious--all the things that Charlie grew up to be. But, for some reason, this batch went a little rogue, and I truly love them for that.
This batch definitely developed a personality of its own. But, you know what? It's kind of perfect when I think about it. Charlie wasn't always a dignified senior statesman who could be trusted to watch over a pottery studio. In fact, in his younger days, he was strong and energetic. He could jump up in the truck with ease, chase (and get sprayed) by skunks, run from the horses, chew the legs off antique chairs, and destroy a shoe or two or fifteen. Honestly, he didn't always play well with other dogs, and he really only loved two humans with his whole heart...me and my dear friend Doris. But, boy did he love us. Also, I say that he was a Chocolate Lab, but he was just Lab(ish), a crazy mix of pit, shepherd, and lab, as the dog DNA test proved.
So, basically, these Mostly Sweet Boy mugs are pretty much perfect. They honor Charlie...especially that young rascal who played hard and guarded me fiercely. Just like him, they are one-of-a-kind and can never be replicated. Like him, they only come this way once, so we smile and blow a kiss to destiny for knowing exactly what we needed and when.

This WV Mug has been around for about a year, but it's never really had its own name. Until now. The newest pottery dog is a tiny little Maltipoo that's a creamy white with soft golden highlights and the prettiest eyes in the world. She goes by Betty, and now these mugs do, too. I throw the mug body in an ivory clay, add a swirled tan and brown WV, and finish it off with a shiny clear glaze. Cute and sweet and absolutely precious...that's the Betty mugs, and that's the Betty dog.

Travel Tumblers

I make these Travel Tumblers for a lot of reasons--they're functional, they're unique, and they serve their sweet purpose. But, mostly, I make them because they are FUN. Every piece of handmade pottery is automatically one-of-a-kind, but these guys are especially so. I combine four different colored clays, ranging from a soft ivory to a deep chocolate, with some speckled tans in between. Before the final firing, I dip them in a shiny clear glaze. So...the colors you see are the color of the clay, not the color of a glaze. Just for extra fun (and also so it's easier to grip) I smoosh the sides a bit. Use with or without a straw, however you prefer.
Unique people need unique pottery. No matter how many of these I make, no two will ever have the same pattern of swirls, and that thrills me to my core. Since no two are alike, there's no way of promising an exact size, but on average these Travel Tumblers can hold 10-12oz.

These are some of the sweetest little clay babies ever ever ever. No matter how many of these cuties I make, no two will ever be alike.
They do have a few things in common, though. First of all, they're made of clay...2-4 different clays, in fact. Just like my swirled mugs and tumblers, these ornaments are a mixture of ivory and speckled brown clays, all shined up with a glossy clear glaze. Also, they're tied with a business card and rustic twine, so they make the sweetest gifts--whether for yourself or someone else.
FYI: $11/flat shipping, regardless of how many you order...so you might as well get a few extras! You can also opt to pick up from my studio in Union, West Virginia.

These HOME Sign Sets are handcrafted start to finish by my sister Melissa and her husband Micah in Shady Spring, West Virginia. This means unique, high quality, and limited in number. Each individual letter is free standing and measures approximately 6.5” tall and 4.75” wide, with the WV being about 9” tall. The sets are hand tied with a twine bow and business card, which makes them perfect for gifting...or for keeping.

Wooden WV Cutting Boards

These WV Cutting Boards are handcrafted start to finish by my sister Melissa and her husband Micah in Shady Spring, West Virginia. If you're looking for a functional but beautiful way to showcase your state pride, these boards are it.
They come in two sizes, Small and Medium. The Small is actually not-so small, measuring 5" wide, 16" tall including the handle, and 1/2" thick. The Medium is 10" wide, 16" including the handle, and 1/2" thick. The beautiful woodgrain and food-safe seal highlight the West Virginia, which Micah traces and then routers. The leather cord makes them easy to hang. Just a personal note--I like to use the back side for cutting so that the West Virginia side stays pristine.

Each WV ORNAMENT is hand cut, embellished, and stained by my sister Melissa and her husband Micah at their home in Shady Spring, WV. These sizable wooden ornaments measure 5.5” tall from the northernmost tip of Hancock County to the bottom of McDowell County. In keeping with their artsy, original look, they hang from a rustic twine cord.
