Pottery by Maryanne
My name may be on the business cards, but I am only the the fourth in command at Pottery by Maryanne. The first to call the shots is Boss Charlie, a chocolate dog rescued from the side of a winding country road when he was just a pup. He should technically be second in line of succession because Mabel the old Basset Hound has seniority, but she has opted out of actual work and chooses instead to sleep all day and just be a non-participant figurehead. The third in line is the new guy, Jack. He's a Goldendoodle, which means 35pounds of pure sweetness, sunshine, and mischief. And that's where I come in. I do all the work while Mabel, Charlie, and Jack look on from their soft beds under the tables. But I don't mind, because I LOVE POTTERY. I was lucky enough to find this art in 2009, when I was a graduate student at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. In the early days, I had a blast setting up and selling at craft shows, festivals, and farmers markets in WV, NC, VA, and TN. However, these days, you can find me in a little purple studio in Monroe County, West Virginia. It's my happy place, and I thank God every day that I get to do what I love in a place that I love.
Under Charlie and Mabel's supervision, I make a little bit of everything, including bowls, spoon rests, tumblers, butter dishes, vases, crocks, and plates. More than anything, though, I make mugs, with my favorites being my Rotten Tomato Mugs and WV Mugs. I offer items available for purchase here on fb, at my store under the Grandstand at the State Fair of West Virginia, and in fun pop-up shops all across the state in Bernadette, my cute-as-can-be seafoam Shasta Airflyte.
Through all of it--throwing, trimming, glazing, packaging, shipping, and marketing--this is a one-woman show, so my pieces are limited in number. Each one is unique and made with love. So, please do me the great honor of following me on my social channels and helping me spread the word about Pottery by Maryanne. You'll never find anyone who is prouder to be a WV small business...or who is more grateful for her customers.
If we have not yet had the opportunity, I look forward to meeting you somewhere along the way.
